Quebec City, Quebec - February 17, 2004 - CorActive Inc., an independent manufacturer of advanced specialty optical fiber products, announces an exclusive agreement with the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) for the manufacture of its revolutionary Mid-Infrared Transmission fiber. This exclusive agreement will see all commercial manufacturing and future development of the Mid-IR Transmission fiber by CorActive. CorActive was chosen for this exclusive patent license due to its optical fiber production expertise, financial security and long term commitment to customers using this advanced Mid-IR fiber.

The NRL's research efforts in Infrared Fibers, headed by Drs. Ishwar Aggarwal and Jas Sanghera, have advanced the state of the art in Mid-IR Transmission fiber. Their efforts have enabled reliable manufacturing of high quality and ultra low loss Mid-IR Transmission fiber, capable of handling the high laser power density associated with advanced applications. The Mid-IR Transmission fiber has been specifically designed in conjunction with commercial partners to address the requirements of leading edge military, industrial and medical products.

Currently available products address high power optical transmission in the 2 micron to 10 micron range. Utilizing the NRL's patented technologies and processes, CorActive provides complete cable assemblies that handle in excess of 1 GW/cm2 of pulsed optical power density. The actual Mid-IR fiber exhibits attenuation of the order of 0.2 dB/m and provides very high quality beam integrity. The overall performance of CorActive's Mid-IR fibers is at least an order of magnitude better than alternative technologies.
